The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) will offer grants to help owners of heavy diesel-powered equipment in the state replace or retrofit their old engines. The MPCA expects to offer about $270,000 in federal grant funds, and the grant is open to public and private fleets.
Newer diesel engines not only burn much cleaner, but are also much more fuel efficient, helping fleets cut their fuel and maintenance costs, the agency said.
The MPCA’s clean diesel grants use federal funds to encourage replacing or upgrading older diesel-powered trucks and construction and marine equipment. Grants typically pay for up to 25% of the cost of replacing a vehicle. For off-road construction and marine equipment, the grants can fund up to 40% of an engine replacement.
The diesel grants are competitive and require that vehicles being replaced must be retired early and the engines scrapped. Grants should be open for application in late October or early November. Visit the MPCA site for updates and more information.
