The Michigan State Police conducted its testing of 2019-model-year police vehicles last month and has released preliminary results, including those of police motorcycles tested.

This year, it tested seven motorcycles: BMW R 1250 RT-P, BMW F 750 GS-P, BMW F 850 GS-P, Harley-Davidson FLHTP, Harley-Davison FLHP Stage 1, Harley-Davidson FLHTP Stage 2, and the Yamaha FJR1300AP.

For dynamics, the BMW R 1250 RT-P achieved the fastest average lap time of 1:36:60. The second fastest average, at 1:38:56, was the Yamaha FJR1300AP.

During brake testing, the BMW R1250 RT-P also performed best, with the fastest overall average deceleration rate, resulting in the shortest projected stopping distance from 60 mph — 130.7 feet. In second place was the BMW 850 GS-P, with a projected stopping distance of 134.4 feet.

During acceleration and top speed testing, the Yamaha FJR1300AP had the fastest top speed of 144 mph, and the BMW R 1250 RT-P came in second at 137 mph. The Yamaha also had the fastest 0-60 mph acceleration rate (3.78 seconds) as well as the fastest 0-100 mph acceleration rate (8.39 seconds). The BMW R 1250 RT-P came in second in both these categories, with 4.03 seconds and 8.77 seconds.
