The Solid Waste Authority of Ohio (SWACO) hosted the final member meeting in 2014 for the Ohio chapter of the Municipal Equipment Maintenance Association (MEMA-OH) on Nov. 20. About 30 members toured the facility.

The vision for renewable natural gas (RNG) by MEMA board member and SWACO Director Scott Perry has been made a reality by turning waste to energy. SWACO has partnered with another company to make its vision a reality, resulting in full production in 2014. The project is one of the state’s largest “public” generators of RNG, all sold into the natural gas pipeline.

About 10 million gas gallon equivalents per year will be produced from SWACO landfill gas, which is enough to fuel about 2,500 trash trucks per year with RNG.

Perry, also sargent of arms for MEMA, presented the slate of directors for a member vote at the next January meeting. If approved, this would leave the current board intact for another year.
