The first major snowstorm of the season hit the east coast on January 7, but public agencies were already prepared. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan reported on January 7 that there were no significant road closures or major impacts from overnight snow because crews had been proactively pre-treating roads and clearing roadways as soon as snow began.

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) crews were treating roads and plowing shoulders where needed along the state’s toll bridges, tunnels, and highways. 

Hogan reported that The Maryland Department of General Services (DGS) was ready to coordinate with its fellow state agencies to provide access to any vehicles in the DGS fleet or in other state agency fleets, including any trucks or four-wheel drive vehicles, for usage by local or state agencies whose fleet may have been negatively affected by the storm.

DGS also asked its vendor to top off all priority refueling sites around the state including sites for the state police. The governor said all state refueling sites were open as usual for refueling.
