Maine to Purchase 100% EVs for State Fleet by 2030

A new report details strategies for state agencies to cut greenhouse gas emissions, transition to 100% clean energy use by 2024, and expand electric vehicle purchasing.
A new report authored by the Governor’s Energy Office and Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future for the State of Maine details strategies for state agencies to cut greenhouse gas emissions, transition to 100% clean energy use by 2024, and expand electric vehicle (EV) purchasing.
The state currently operates 2,100 fleet vehicles, including five EVs and 16 hybrid vehicles. The report states that by 2025, a minimum of 50% of newly purchased or leased light-duty state fleet vehicles, with appropriate use cases, will be zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). The state will ensure the availability of adequate and coordinated charging infrastructure to meet this target. By 2030, 100% of all newly purchased or leased light-duty state fleet vehicles, with appropriate use cases, will be ZEVs.
State government agencies will also pilot, where practicable, emerging low- and zero-emission technologies for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles as new technologies emerge, ultimately setting future targets based on available technology options.
