MaineDOT Ends State-Run Vanpool
AUGUSTA, ME – The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) plans to end its “GO MAINE” vanpool program on May 1, 2012, due to a lack of available funding to replace vehicles and for related expenses.
AUGUSTA, ME – The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) plans to end its “GO MAINE” vanpool program on May 1, 2012, due to a lack of available funding to replace vehicles and for related expenses.
According to a letter on MaineDOT’s GO MAINE website, in Sept., 2011, the organization evaluated the GO MAINE Commuter Connections Program, which provided a vanpool service to Maine residents, and discovered funding had been inconsistent. Due to the current economic climate, Maine DOT determined it would end the publicly funded vanpool program.
MaineDOT stated that vanpool drivers will have the option to transition to a privately operated vanpool service (VPSI, Inc.). State-owned vehicles will be returned to the State on or around May 1.
