Louisville’s Only Helicopter Out of Service for a Third of 2017

The Louisville (Ky.) Metro Police Department’s only helicopter was out of service for repairs and maintenance for nearly one-third of 2017, reported WDRB. Maintenance costs continue to rise, and the police department is seeking funds to buy another helicopter.
The city considered buying a new helicopter earlier this year, but those plans were set aside when the city increased pension costs. The Police Department has not asked Louisville Metro Council for the funds to purchase a new helicopter, but council president told WDRB that issuing bonds may cover the cost.
