LOS ANGELES - The City of Los Angeles on April 4 opened a new natural gas fueling facility for the City's sanitation fleet. The North Central Clean-Fuel Dispensing Facility will serve the City's recycling and refuse collection vehicles that operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG), according to a release from the City.
"This clean fuel facility will help the families of East LA breathe easier for years to come," Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa stated. "Our City already leads the nation with the largest municipal fleet of natural gas solid resources collection vehicles and now with the use of clean fuel, our sanitation trucks will reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent."
The City of Los Angeles has committed to increase the number of alternative fuel vehicles in its fleet by 15 percent each year until it converts 85 percent of its fleet by fiscal-year 2012-2013. Los Angeles operates 19 alternative fuel locations, according to the City.
