La. PD Updates Aging Fleet with 73 New Vehicles

The Baton Rouge (La.) Police Department has updated its aged and depleted fleet of patrol cars with 35 new unmarked cars and 38 marked cars, the PD announced on Facebook. The department thanked the mayor-president, elected leaders, and taxpayers for the new vehicles.
In 2017, the average age of police cars had doubled from the 2009 average as fewer replacement units were purchased and a 2016 flood destroyed 93 units, The Advocate reported. Patrol officers were forced to double up on patrols due to the aged fleet.
