Kan. City to Delay Natural Gas Fueling
City commissioners in Lawrence, Kan., are expected to vote against installing a natural gas fueling station for its transit fleet and other city vehicles due to the cost of construction.

City commissioners in Lawrence, Kan., are expected to vote against installing a natural gas fueling station for its transit fleet and other city vehicles due to the cost of construction.
"I still think CNG is going to happen," City Commissioner Bob Schumm told the Laurence Journal-World. "But the pieces of the puzzle aren't in place to have it happen right now."
The city estimated the cost of constructing a quick-fill CNG fueling station at $2 million. The city could recoup the cost in nine to 10 years. The city must also find a location for the fueling center.
Transit officials have been pushing for a CNG fueling station at the city's existing maintenance facility, which wouldn't be convenience for refuse trucks or public works vehicles.
