BIRMINGHAM, AL- With Jefferson County budget cuts resulting in 900 employee furloughs, use of the county's more than 1,800-vehicle fleet will be significantly reduced, reported the Birmingham News.
Many of the cars in Jefferson County's vehicle fleet have been parked since July 31, as employees who use them for work are furloughed.
Charles Tyler, director of fleet management, said the County not only lost staff to repair the vehicles, but funding for parts has been cut drastically. "We are probably 10 percent of where we were," he said, of money to order repair parts, according to Birmingham News.
