Jacksonville Motorpool Reduction to Save $1.4M

JACKSONVILLE, FL – The City of Jacksonville's reduction of 70 motorpool vehicles is expected to save taxpayer money and cut its carbon footprint, according to the Florida-Times Union.
The move is expected to reduce vehicle replacement costs by at least $1.4 million. It also enabled fleet management to shuffle lightly used vehicles - some were going just 500 miles annually - away from departments that weren't doing much driving.
To handle the combined driving needs of those 70 vehicles, four mid-size cars will be used as loaners for any city employee to use for city business. The user's department will be charged 60 cents a mile, according to the Florida-Times.
The four-car sign-out program is expected to grow as part of a general policy shift to further reduce the city motorpool, which contains more than 3,000 vehicles.

See how your peers are managing costs today and where the industry still has room to improve.
