KNOXVILLE, TN - Knox County is looking to cut down use of take-home vehicles by installing GPS, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.
County commissioners approved a proposal Oct. 26 that could lead to key county take-home vehicles having GPS systems installed to cut down on employees' personal driving. The commission approved issuing a "request for information" to estimate the costs of installing GPS systems in certain take-home vehicles.
The county currently has 516 take-home vehicles, with 380 assigned to the Sheriff's Office. The current GPS proposal excludes Sheriff's Office vehicles and vehicles used by the school system.
Knox County take-home policy restricts vehicles from being driven outside Knox County and limits use to commuting and business use.
