The New York Police Department gave the public its first look at the newest addition to its fleet: the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E Sport Crossover Utility Vehicle. The reveal happened at the New York Auto Show.

In a video posted to NYPD's twitter page, Insp. Scott Olexa, commanding officer of the fleet services division, said the new additions will be put into service as patrol vehicles. The department purchased 184 of the vehicles earlier this year as part of a $420 million investment in fleet electrification; the city plans to transition to an all-electric fleet by 2035.

Olexa said charging stations are currently being installed at multiple department facilities.

The vehicles will have standard grill and roof lights. The doors have ballistic panels and windows. The NYPD's Mach-Es will have steel roofs, while other models of the vehicle typically have glass roofs. Additional reflective material will be placed on the back of the cars to make them more visible in low-lit areas. The vehicles will also have the same traditional decals that are displayed on the rest of the department's fleet.

Olexa said the new vehicles will hit the streets of New York City this summer.
