FRESNO, CA -Fresno County supervisors voted Sept. 29 not to seek savings by moving information technology and fleet services from the Sheriff's Office to departments that handle the services for other county departments, according to The Fresno Bee.

The services were moved to the Sheriff's Office from General Services and Information Technology Services in an effort to save money several years ago. Supervisors opposed to switching the services back called them examples of micromanaging Sheriff Margaret Mims' budget, reported the Fresno Bee.

The board voted to advertise for a consultant to study the county's General Services Department, which manages most county vehicles and handles other miscellaneous services. The study, estimated to cost $60,000, will not include the sheriff's management of vehicles.

Mims and other county officials have complained about how much the department charges for its services. Sheriff's officials said they manage vehicles more efficiently than General Services, saving the county $500,000 each year, according to the Fresno Bee.
