A former East Baton Rouge Parish (La.) police officer is accused of using his department-issued fuel card about 50 times after he had resigned, filling his personal truck with $1,500 worth of gasoline over a five-month period, The Advocate reported.
An audit of the East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Council, issued July 20, detailed the alleged theft. The audit document stated that the investigation into the case is complete, and an arrest had been made.
The issue surfaced during an internal audit of fuel purchases across all departments. That audit identified a weakness in the communication between the Chief’s office and the Police Fleet Department upon termination of an employee.Since then, communication has improved to ensure that the Fleet Department cancels out fuel cards of terminated employees, according to the latest audit documents.
