New Haven (Conn.) firefighters have criticized a city plan to replace a fire engine with two paramedic units, and said the move will hamper their ability to provide quality service, reports the New Haven Register.
The city's Office of Emergency Management proposed replacing the engine and said switching to the smaller vehicles would save the department in operating costs and allow it to serve more residents at once, since 75% of the city's emergency calls require emergency medical services.
