Colo. City Dives Deep Into CNG
The City of Fort Lupton (Colo.) has converted its entire police fleet to run on compressed natural gas (CNG), and added several other CNG-powered trucks for Public Works and other city departments.

The City of Fort Lupton (Colo.) has converted its entire police fleet to run on compressed natural gas (CNG), and added several other CNG-powered trucks for Public Works and other city departments.
The city began adding the CNG vehicles in 2012, following the installation of a CNG fueling station in the city by Weld County. The city has funded 82 percent of the cost of the vehicles through federal grants, reports the Greeley Tribune.
The city initially added four Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon SUVs, three Chevrolet pickups, and a Freightliner dump truck powered by CNG. In late 2013, the city added three more Tahoe SUVs for the police department. The vehicles have been funded with grants from the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) program administered by the Federal Highway Administration.
The police vehicles aren't designed for high speed pursuits to fit in with the agency's policy limiting pursuits, and the spare tire has been removed to make room for the CNG tank.
