City of West Point Converts Patrol Cruisers to Propane
WEST POINT, MS – The City of West Point, Miss., converted eight 2009 Ford Crown Victoria police cruisers from gasoline to propane autogas.
WEST POINT, MS – The City of West Point, Miss., converted eight 2009 Ford Crown Victoria police cruisers from gasoline to propane autogas.
West Point’s Assistant Police Chief Bobby Lane noted the propane‐powered engines are expected to last two‐three times longer than conventional engines and said the City expects to save $26,000 annually.
“This change is beneficial to our community in a number of ways," said the City’s Mayor Scott Ross. "We are developing a cleaner living environment while creating substantial savings on fuel."
The City worked with Alliance AutoGas to convert the vehicles. The Alliance AutoGas program provides vehicle conversions, on‐site fueling, and ongoing safety training and technical support.
“The city of West Point is ultimately supporting American energy security by running their police fleet vehicles on autogas,” said Alliance AutoGas’ Vice President of Business Development Mark Denton. “The U.S. autogas supply is more than 90 percent made‐in‐America, so these officers can feel good knowing they’re helping reduce our nation’s dependence on foreign oil.”
