City of DeLand Purchases Chevrolet Volts With Grant

DELAND, FL – The City of DeLand, Fla. has purchased five Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicles using grant funds, according to City documents. The funds come from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program, which is run by the Department of Energy. The four vehicles will be used for utility meter readings and one will be used for transporting passengers.
In terms of fuel savings, City documents state that at $3.00 per gallon, each Volt will save $21,690 in fuel costs over a 10-year lifespan for both electricity and gasoline when compared with the previous vehicle used for meter reading (a mid-size pickup truck). For the Volt that’s replacing a passenger van, at $3.00 per gallon the vehicle will save $23,630 over a 10-year lifespan.
