City of Chicago to Deploy 550+ Green Vehicles

CHICAGO- The City of Chicago was awarded nearly $15 million by the Department of Energy to move forward with greening activities.
Awarded $14,999,658, the Department of Environment's Chicago Area Alternative Fuels Deployment Project will deploy 554 alternative fuel and hybrid electric vehicles and install 153 alternative fueling and electric vehicle charging stations throughout the Chicago region.
The initiative also includes garbage trucks, also known as refuse collection vehicles. The project will result in expanded availability of alternative fuels with 17 new CNG and E-85 fueling stations and 63 electric vehicle charging stations. DOE estimates the project will help displace 3 million gallons of petroleum per year.
