ONTARIO, CA - Council members are looking to adopt an anti-idling policy for municipally-owned vehicles, reported on www.brantfordexpositor.ca.
The operations and administration committee has endorsed a resolution calling for the development of an anti-idling policy for city vehicles. The committee also wants information on what would be needed to extend the policy for all vehicles, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
The policy is to be ready for presentation to the committee at its January meeting.
"This is something that will save gas and helps the environment," Coun. Marguerite Ceschi-Smith said after bringing the resolution before the committee Monday. "This helps the community do something about climate change."
Other committee members, including Mayor Mike Hancock, councillors Dan McCreary and Greg Martin, spoke in favour of the policy.
"There's no excuse for idling," Martin said.
