Higher-than-expected fuel prices for the first six months of fiscal-year 2019 have led to a budget shortfall for the City of Peoria, Ariz., reports Your Valley. During this time, diesel and unleaded fuel prices were about 12% higher than projected the year before.
Although fuel prices are now dropping, current estimates show that it will not make up for the extra spending in the first half of the fiscal year. In addition to the established budget, the city’s Fleet Services Division will need to spend an additional $166,000 for unleaded gasoline and an additional $85,000 for diesel.
Tire usage and expenses were additionally not budgeted to properly reflect the needs of the fleet. The Fleet Services Division expects to spend an additional $47,000 on tire repairs and purchases.
