Calif. Agency Purchases Electric Motorcycle
The San Mateo (Calif.) Police Department has purchased a 2013 Zero DS Police motorcycle to patrol the city's downtown area, the company announced.

The San Mateo (Calif.) Police Department has purchased a 2013 Zero DS Police motorcycle to patrol the city's downtown area, the company announced.
The agency acquired the electric cycle to "easily maneuver its way through our downtown traffic quietly and efficiently without disrupting the community," said Deputy Chief Michael Callagy.
The DS Police motorcycle will also help the department lower its operating costs for its motor unit, Callagy added. The officer riding it will be able to use the DS for an entire shift.
The police version of the Zero DS has an approximate range of 112 miles on a single charge and can reach speeds of 80 mph. It takes about eight hours to charge.
Several other northern California agencies are using Zero DS Police motorcycles including the San Jose State University Police Department, Santa Cruz Police Department, and Scotts Valley Police Department.
