The Boise Police Department in Idaho unveiled a new patrol car that brings awareness to domestic abuse and sexual assault. The specialty car features a purple ribbon design and was unveiled during the month of February, which is recognized as Teen Dating Violence Awareness month.

“The impact domestic violence has on our children and our community as a whole is immeasurable and we are committed to improving our efforts to prevent domestic violence, respond to the needs of the victims and hold offenders accountable,” Police Chief William Bones said in a statement.  “Through awareness, we hope to encourage people to report abuse and increase the understanding that there is help available and no one has to live in fear.”

According to a statement from the agency, there were 5,242 calls for service related to domestic abuse of sexual assault in Ada County, Idaho, in 2017, or an average of 14 calls per day.

The graphics were sponsored by donors of the Women’s and Children’s Alliance, which operates secure shelters and provides professional counseling, legal advocacy, crisis services, and case management to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.

This is the agency’s third specialty car. Boise PD also has a Cycling Safety Awareness car, unveiled in 2014, and a Breast Cancer Awareness car, unveiled in 2013.
