NEWARK, NJ – The Logistical Services group of the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey (UMDNJ), in concert with Physical Plant and FP&C, is in the process of converting a 10,000 gallon Underground Storage Tank (UST) from gasoline to Biodiesel fuel. The blend will be B20, which is 80 percent diesel and 20 percent soy or vegetable oil.
“We burn about 100,000 gallons of diesel in our buses, ambulances, and rescue trucks a year in Newark alone,” said Alan Binstein, director, UMDNJ Logistical Services. “We are partnering with the NJ Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) and receiving a rebate of $17,500 to offset the incremental costs over regular diesel fuel. It’s nice to receive the rebate, but nice to help the environment, too.”
