Baton Rouge’s New Police Chief Plans for New Vehicles, More Technology
Baton Rouge, La., Police Department’s new chief announced plans to adopt new technology and purchase 78 new vehicles to supplement an aging fleet.

The City of Baton Rouge, La., swore in its new police chief this week. Chief Murphy Paul, a former lieutenant colonel for the Louisiana State Police, plans to emphasize technology, replace aging fleet vehicles, and increase manpower, reports The Advocate.
At his swearing in, Chief Paul told officers that help is coming in the form of new cars and recruits. The Baton Rouge Police Department plans to replace flooded vehicles and purchase an additional 78 vehicles, which were approved by Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome. The agency also plans to purchase 25 crime cameras and 75 license plate readers.
In August, more than 200 of the agency’s vehicles were out for repairs, with repairs estimated at $3.5 million.
