The Baltimore County Police Department will begin replacing its aging fleet of patrol vehicles with Ford Police Interceptor sedans in December when 50 new vehicles hit the streets.
The agency purchased 50 Ford P.I. sedans for about $26,000 each, and plans to replace 450 Crown Victorias over six years. The agency evaluated all the new patrol vehicles.
Police Chief James W. Johnson told the Baltimore Sun a departmental panel chose the car because of its cost and performance. "It handles ... like a sports car," Johnson said. "This really is a state-of-the-art vehicle."
The new vehicle was introduced to the media on Nov. 14 at the agency's Cockeysville Precinct.
