Auburn Hills Receives Plug-in Hybrid Chrysler Town & Country Minivans as Part of Chrysler Demonstration Project
AUBURN HILLS, MI - The City received four vehicles, out of a total of 25 planned for the program. They are part of a two-year demonstration project that’s a partnership between Chrysler Group and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
AUBURN HILLS, MI - Chrysler has delivered four plug-in hybrid Chrysler Town & Country Minivans to the City of Auburn Hills. These vehicles, out of a total of 25, are part of a two-year demonstration project that’s a partnership between Chrysler Group and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). According to Chrysler, the automaker is investing $15.8 million in the project and the DOE is investing $10 million.
Chrysler said Auburn Hills will test the Chrysler-owned vehicles, evaluating everyday city and highway driving. The automaker said City staff selected to evaluate the vehicles will regularly report all driving and charging experiences to Chrysler.
For the purposes of the project, Auburn Hills will be installing a single Level II EVSE charging station, one for each of the four vehicles in the program, throughout the City. The City is paying installation costs for the charging stations and will own them after the program ends.
In 2011, Auburn Hills received four Ram 1500 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles as part of a similar project.
