The Arkansas State Police has assigned 24 “low-profile” police cars to the State Police Highway Patrol Division in order to allow the vehicles to blend in with regular traffic so officers can witness more violations. The police department stated that each of the 12 State Police Troops received two of the vehicles. Arkansas State Police said this is the largest fleet of low-profile patrol cars the agency has ever had in use at any one time.
Each vehicle is equipped the same as a patrol car but doesn’t have a roof-mounted light bar and is only marked on the passenger’s side with the Arkansas State Police star and blue stripe.
The State purchased the vehicle with a highway safety grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The State also used the grant money to purchase detection radars, emergency lighting, and law enforcement communications equipment for the vehicles.
