LITTLE ROCK, AR – Biodiesel has become one of the latest issues in the Arkansas gubernatorial race. Democrat Mike Beebe wants 75 percent of the state’s diesel-powered vehicles to be using Arkansas-made biodiesel by 2009, according to the Associated Press. His GOP rival, Asa Hutchinson, wants the conversion to should happen even sooner. Beebe, the state’s attorney general, announced his proposal at the Arkansas Farm Bureau Young Ranchers state convention in Hot Springs. Beebe’s plan calls for 75 percent of the state’s diesel-run vehicles to use at least a B-20 blend of fuel. Hutchinson said that along with tax credits, the state needs to provide money so researchers can develop the technology needed to make biodiesel and ethanol more readily available, according to the Associated Press.
