Alternative Fueling Infrastructure Legislation Introduced
PRINCETON, NJ – Senators John Thune (R–SD) and Ken Salazar (D–CO) introduced the Alternative Refueling Systems Act (S.331).
PRINCETON, NJ – Senators John Thune (R–SD) and Ken Salazar (D–CO) introduced the Alternative Refueling Systems Act (S.331), according to the NAFA Fleet Focus e-mail newsletter. The legislation would authorize the Department of Energy, through the Clean Cities Program, to provide grants to fleets and gas station owners who install alternative refueling systems, including E-85, biodiesel, natural gas, hydrogen, and propane.
Under the legislation, facilities that wish to install a new alternative-fuel tank would be reimbursed for 30 percent of the cost (not exceeding $30,000) of expenses related to the purchase and installation of a new alternative refueling system. NAFA is a listed supporter of the legislation, as are General Motors, Ford, Daimler Chrysler, and Wal-Mart.
