Agencies Expand Patrol with UTVs
With summer approaching, several police agencies are adding off-road vehicles to help patrol their parks and trails.

With summer approaching, several police agencies are adding off-road vehicles to help patrol their parks and trails.
The City of Round Rock, Texas, has added two off-highway vehicles to patrol parks to ensure the safety of bikers, walkers, and joggers. In addition to responding to emergencies, an officer told KXAN officers will be passing out water to combat heat exhaustion. The vehicles will be driven by officers as well as trained volunteers, and are equipped with with radios to dispatch extra help if needed.
DeKalb Police (Ga.) has added a utility task vehicle (UTV) with the help of community donations. The agency received $8,000 from the DeKalb County Community Foundation and $5,000 from the DeKalb Park District, with the rest of the funds coming from the city's asset forfeiture fund, reports the Daily Chronicle.
The City of Brea, Calif., has added a Polaris GEM UTV to patrol the Tracks at Brea, a four-mile multi-use trail and lineal park. The vehicle has a top speed of 25 mph and can travel 98 miles on a full charge, reports the OC Register.
