SAN ANTONIO – The City of San Antonio approved the purchase of the Ford Escape hybrids to both reduce the cost of the fleet and help reduce pollutants across the city, said District 7 Councilman Justin Rodriguez, according to www.ksat.com.

“With the technology changing so rapidly, we’re just trying to stay on top of it,” he said, as quoted by www.ksat.com. “But I think that this sends a big message to the community that San Antonio is progressing, and we’re making sure that we are moving in the right direction.”

Currently, about 20 percent of the city’s fleet are hybrids. Next up for the city is a plan to introduce alternative-fuel vehicles to the San Antonio Police Department’s fleet.
