ASBURY PARK, N.J. – As technology improves and prices drop, more hybrid vehicles will be added to the Ocean County fleet, according to the Asbury Park Press. Nine have been in use for the past two years, four more are on order, and county officials will be looking to see if more hybrids will be purchased this year.
Currently, the County has been satisfied with the performance, cost, and efficiency of the vehicles, which include the Ford Escape. James Pine, the county’s director of vehicle services, said the hybrids showed big increases in fuel efficiency.
A hybrid that replaced a Ford Windstar van used by the mail distribution operation of the county got nearly twice the miles per gallon as the van.
The staff is being trained to work on the hybrid vehicles.
