The Chula Vista Police Department (Calif.) may use drones fitted with speakers while it is encouraging officers to practice social distancing. According to KUSI, the goal with deploying these drones is to communicate the services and resources available to homeless communities who are left most vulnerable.

Captain Vern Sallee told KUSI the agency is currently vetting this idea through the Federal Aviation Administration.

Drones are not new to the Chula Vista police fleet. The agency first activated its drone program in 2017 to support tactical operations and, in 2018, worked with drone software company Cape to deploy a Drone as a First Responder program, where drones are used to respond to emergency calls.
