Kauai City Council (Hawaii) approved a request to spend $178,000 a year over the next five years to lease Ford Police Interceptors. The Kauai Police Department is in the middle of a three-year vehicle replacement plan, aiming to purchase 15 vehicles a year for three years. The new vehicles are part of a lease-to-own agreement, which would give the agency ownership after five years, reports The Garden Island.
Most of the vehicles will be assigned for officers to take home. After the three-year period, Kauai PD will re-evaluate the fleet every year and determine whether more vehicles are necessary.
