The City of Northport, Ala., is revising its vehicle use policy to adhere to federal guidelines, specifically, defining take-home vehicles as a fringe benefit that employees declare as taxable income, the Tuscaloosa News reported.
The city attorney and interim city administrator are working on a proposal to present to city council. The change could mean adding around $780 in additional taxable income per year for the 38 individuals with take-home vehicles.
