Gary (Ind.) Common Council approved $2.3 million to purchase five new fire trucks in an effort to replace the fire department's aging fleet. Gary Fire Department Chief Paul Bradley told the council that the replacements are necessary, as the typical life cycle of a fire truck is 20 years, and the department's seven fire trucks currently range between 17 and 26 years old, reports the Chicago Tribune

The old trucks will remain in the fleet, but they will be moved to the department's training center.
