Public fleets serving disadvantaged communities in California can now apply for up to $15,000 in rebates for each green light-duty vehicle they purchase. The Public Fleet Pilot Project has $2.8 million in funding and is administered by the Center for Sustainable Energy for the California Air Resources Board.
Public agencies serving "California’s most vulnerable and pollution-burdened areas" are eligible. They can apply for rebates of $5,250 for a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, $10,000 for a battery or range-extended electric vehicle, and $15,000 for a fuel-cell electric vehicle.
Fleets can receive up to 30 rebates per calendar year. They can apply for rebates for vehicles before delivery or up to six months after taking delivery of a vehicle, as long as it was delivered on or after July 31, 2014.
To check eligibility, agencies can enter their zip codes into the Public Fleet Pilot Project webpage. A full list of eligible vehicles and rules are also available there.
Fleets must retain ownership of the vehicle for at least 30 consecutive months and submit annual vehicle usage reports for this period of time. Leased vehicles are not eligible, and federal entities in California are not eligible.
