A veteran supervisor at the Knoxville, Tenn., Fleet Services division has been placed on administrative leave without pay while the city's police department investigates possible misappropriation of city equipment.

Michael Smith, 49, oversees the city's heavy shop that repairs fire trucks, dump trucks, and snow plows. He has been placed on leave for 10 days. Smith has been with the city for 24 years and earns $53,600 annually, reports the Knoxville News-Sentinel.

Smith has been reprimanded in the past for unauthorized use of a city vehicle.
