Ford has developed a prisoner transport version of its 2015 Transit van that can carry as many as 12 prisoners in three separate compartments, Ford has announced.

The Transit Prisoner Transport Vehicle (TPV) features an upfit package developed in coordination with Havis Prisoner Transport Solutions, a Warminster, Pa., police upfitter. Law enforcement officers on Ford's police advisory board provided feedback about how to set up the van to suits the needs of deputies.

The Transit van is available in three roof heights, two wheelbases, three lengths and four body styles. It offers two gasoline engine options — a 3.7-liter V-6 that runs E-85 ethanol or a 3.5-liter EcoBoost — as well as a 3.2-liter Power Stroke diesel.

Ford has not announced whether it will produce the vehicle.
