Officials from the City of Somerville, Mass., are considering leasing GPS tracking units for all city vehicles after a successful pilot program on patrol cars, but employees and unions are skeptical about the rollout, Wicked Local reported.
A lawyer representing the unions said GPS units cause "natural anxiety," but a department chief said employees have nothing to fear if they're not doing anything wrong.
The city would use the GPS units to monitor idling and vehicle location. In order to permanently install GPS on fleet vehicles, the city will have to negotiate through collective bargaining.
