Government vehicle sales continue to rise into 2024 with both cars and truck/SUV sales climbing between January and February of 2024, according to Bobit/Government Fleet sales data released March 2.
Continued Growth Early in the Year
For the month of February 2024, a total of 683 government car sales and 21,054 truck/SUV sales were reported. Total sales between the two months rose from 19,821 in January to 21,737 total sales in February.
However, compared to the previous year in February, government vehicle car sales saw a noticeable drop of 66%, a 1,324 vehicle difference. But sales have been bolstered by truck/SUV sales, which increased by 7.8% in February of 2023 compared to February of 2024. YTD, total government vehicle sales increased by 3.6% compared to the previous year [Hyundai, Nissan, Subaru, and Toyota sales numbers were not present for government fleets].
Government Vehicle Demand Differentials in Vehicle Type
If the vehicle sales numbers between January and February of this year are an indication of the previous year then sales should continue to increase into March. Similar to 2024, in 2023 government vehicles sales saw an overall increase between January and February. The previous year continued to see those sales climb into the next month.
So far, there have been 1,210 government car sales, 40,348 truck/suv sales, and 41,558 total sales CYTD. Truck/SUV sales make up the majority of these sales as car sales have been down. However, it’s still early on in the year and if last year is any indication of what is to come there is still a chance for another vehicle sales bump within the next month.
