Electric vehicle training is the first program of a new partnership between Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) and Savannah Technical College (STC).

Leadership from Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) and Savannah Technical College recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the training partnership

“Everything we do at Savannah Technical College is about workforce development for our region,” said STC President Dr. Kathy Love. “We are proud to partner with HMGMA to help train their workforce. We appreciate their input to develop this short-term, specialized training certificate.”

Preparing for Employment in the EV Industry

The EV program will allow those enrolled the opportunity for a production technical certificate of credit (EVP1) starting in Fall 2023. Those that complete the program will be preferred for employment with HMGMA.

“HMGMA is excited to work with Savannah Tech now and for many years to come. They are a very important partner,” said HMGMA CEO/President Oscar Kwon.

EVP1 was designed at the request of Hyundai to prepare students for entry level employment in the EV production industry. Training emphasis will be placed on safe and effective automotive shop operations, automotive electrical principles, and operation and service of electric and hybrid vehicles.

Graduates will be trained to prepare for work in sub-assembly shops, building components as well as work on the floor of production facilities to put the sub-assembly together to manufacture EVs.

This eight-hour TCC includes three courses: Automotive Technology Introduction; Automotive Electrical Principles; and Introduction to EV/Hybrid Vehicles and Safety Protocols. The College plans to offer this training at all campuses starting Fall 2023 and will be available each mini-mester. Prospective students must have a high school diploma or equivalency (GED).
