The Bargersville, Ind., police department bought their first five Tesla Model 3 vehicles in 2019, and Bargersville Police Chief Todd Bertram believes the return on the investment can happen as fast as 19 months, according to a report by electrek.
The Model 3 Standard Range Plus version they purchased is a little more expensive than the Dodge Charger at around $41,000, but they expect gas savings of about $6,000 per year, which means the Model 3 will pay for itself over its lifetime.
The department generally keeps its vehicles for six years, and after they broke down the economics, they determine they are going to save about $20,000 per car with the Model 3.
