MILWAUKEE - General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee has placed a $5.6 million order with Oshkosh Airport Products for snow removal and emergency response equipment, according to www.govpro.com.
The airport, which is owned and operated by Milwaukee County, ordered nine Oshkosh HT-Series snow tractors, three Oshkosh H-Series snowblowers, and two Oshkosh Striker aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles. Delivery is scheduled for March 2009.
Oshkosh, Wis.-based Oshkosh Corp. describes the HT-Series snow tractor vehicle as “an all-purpose, multitasking apparatus that can perform a myriad of functions, including plowing, sweeping, scraping, and/or forced air blowing.” According to the company, the H-Series snowblower vehicle can throw snow as far as 150 feet while operating at speeds up to 35 mph.
Both of the Striker 3000 models specified by Milwaukee County feature a 3,000-gallon water tank, TAK-4 independent suspension, a 680-horsepower engine, electronic foam proportioning, and a high-volume low-attack bumper turret. One of the Striker vehicles also features a Snozzle high-reach extendable turret.
General Mitchell International Airport serves 13 airlines that offer approximately 235 daily departures and fly direct to 90 cities, which ranks Milwaukee among the top 10 percent of U.S. cities in the number of nonstop destinations.
