SPRINGFIELD, IL – Bidders from all over the country recently logged onto the State of Illinois Web site to find bargain vehicles.
SPRINGFIELD, IL– Bidders from all over the country recently logged onto the State of Illinois Web site to find bargain vehicles.
More than 90 vehicles from the State’s fleet, police cruisers, and confiscated vehicles were auctioned off online and in real-time on Mar. 29. The event was part of the Department of Central Management Service’s (CMS) ongoing effort to raise revenues by selling items no longer needed by the State.
A large variety of vehicles were auctioned, including Dodge vans, Ford Taurus sedans, and pick-up trucks. Bidders were able to look at all the photos and descriptions as the vehicles were sold. “The success of the State’s first online auction system, iBid (www.ibid.illinois.gov) has proven that surplus sales across the Internet continue to result in higher returns for the State’s surplus property,” said Acting CMS Director Maureen T. O’Donnell. ”Selling vehicles in a live Internet auction from the warehouse parking lot is the next step in this evolution.”
In addition to the online vehicle auction, CMS is also taking the surplus property auction online. The next live online auction is set for Apr. 16 at 9 a.m.
