SEARCHThe State of Pennsylvania's Department of the Auditor General has saved more than $750,000 by eliminating 158 cars from its fleet.
The State of Pennsylvania's auditor has reduced his fleet by more than 65% and saved state taxpayers $750,000 with the move, which also improves travel efficiency, according to Auditor General Eugene DePasquale.
DePasquale eliminated 158 cars from the vehicle fleet since he took office in 2013, reducing the fleet from 241 vehicles to 83 today, according to a release from the department.
In addition to the fleet savings, DePasquale noted that since he took office, he made other cost-cutting moves to reduce expenses by more than $564,000 by reorganizing the department, reducing printing, and consolidating offices.
"Despite having the lowest staffing level in generations and fewer cars than ever, we are currently maintaining audit levels," DePasquale said.
In a recent development focused on improving operational efficiency, Franklin County, Missouri, has entered into agreements with Enterprise Fleet Management.
