The U.S. Army Contracting Command – Detroit Arsenal (ACC-DTA) has awarded Oshkosh Defense a five-year, Fixed Price with Economic Price Adjustment Requirements contract for the Family of Heavy Tactical Vehicles (FHTV) V program. The contract, valued at an estimated $1.54 billion, extends Oshkosh's role in delivering new and recapitalized heavy tactical vehicles and associated trailers through 2031.

Overview of Oshkosh's FHTV Fleet and Its Role in Military Operations

The Oshkosh FHTV fleet includes vehicles such as the Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT A4), Palletized Load System (PLS A1), PLS Trailer, and Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET A1). These platforms are designed to provide the payload capacity, protection, and mobility necessary for combat formations in challenging environments. Oshkosh has produced more than 71,000 modernized heavy tactical vehicles and trailers for the U.S. military and allied nations.

Planned Upgrades and Modernization Efforts

Oshkosh plans to enhance the FHTV fleet with targeted upgrades aimed at modernizing the vehicles, extending their operational life, and reducing overall operating costs. The fleet's advanced architecture supports the integration of additional features, such as drive-by-wire capability, Condition Based Maintenance (CBM), electrification, export power, fuel efficiency, and demand reduction modifications.

In June 2024, as part of the FHTV IV contract extension, the U.S. Army awarded contract modifications valued at $231.9 million for modernized trucks, kits, and kit installations. The Army is expected to begin purchasing vehicles under the FHTV V contract starting in August 2024.
